RMPA Logo & Lapel Pin

The RMPA logo is based on the Old Comrades Association design that pre-dates the formation of the RMPA nearly 80 years ago.

The original design had a full scroll, which was changed post 1946 to incorporate the Royal Prefix and the logo changed again in 1953, updating the Royal Cypher and removing the ends of the scroll.  The logo was again updated two years ago, to incorporate the CIII cypher.

With all the designs, the general layout and wording remained the same with ‘R.M.P ASSOCIATION’ at the top with ‘ROYAL MILITARY POLICE’ in the scroll. It was questioned over recent years if the use of full stops (or periods) after the letters ‘R.M.P’ was needed as their use to indicate an abbreviation has diminished over the years.  (They indicate that the full word has been abbreviated, and that the abbreviation is not a separate word itself). The RMP abbreviation is also well known, and it could be argued there was an element of duplication in the design with the use of RMP and Royal Military Police.

As the Association is approaching it’s 80 th Anniversary, it was felt that is an ideal opportunity to update the logo in order to create a cleaner design, whilst maintaining and respecting key elements that have been in place since the formation of the Association.
