2000.06.01 Northern Ireland: 2nd Regiment RMP was redesignated 6th Regiment RMP; this was to enable the re-use of the 2 RMP title with the new Regiment which had been formed and linked to 2nd Division.    6 RMP comprised: On 1 April 2000 all three Brigades in NI became responsible for the command and administrative task of looking after their own RMP personnel and in the case of 3 and 8 Brigades it appears the provost units were integrated into HQ 3 Inf Bde & Sig Sqn and HQ 8 Inf Bde & Sig Sqn respectively.    In the case of 39 Bde it appears the RMP were absorbed into a new 39 Brigade Operational Support Platoon

  Operation Banner ended on 31 July 2007 and with it 38 years of RMP support in the Province. 6th Regiment Royal Military Police based in Lisburn, Northern Ireland disbanded on this date leading to fresh challenges, presented as a consequence of Normalisation. Primary amongst them has been the need to convert from an Operational posture to that of support to a regional garrison. Key is the rebirth of 173 Provost Company, which formed on 1 August 2007, part of 3 RMP, delivering operational support to 19 Light Brigade.

1936 England: Catterick Garrison: Catterick Company CMP was formed and had a strength of a CSM, three Sgts, 5 Cpls, 29 LCpl and Ptes, 7 horses, 4 two seat cars and 21 motorcycles. At this time Catterick had the largest MT of any Military Police unit in the United Kingdom  
1941 The Coy was renamed 150 Provost Company CMP  
1950 Detachment was opened in York and Harrogate  
1952 Detachment was opened in Newcastle  
1955 Three sections were deployed for three weeks on Op HOTFOOT to York, Carlisle and Newcastle railway stations during a national rail strike  
1956 24 Independent Infantry Bde Pro Unit was attached to 150 Pro Coy CMP before moving to there own location in Barnard Castle  
1959 Harrogate Det closed down and the manpower was moved to York Det  
1960 150 Pro Coy CMP amalgamated with 152 Pro Coy CMP stationed at Nottingham and the new company was renamed again, this time as 150 (Northern Command) Pro Coy RMP. The unit then moved to more modern accommodation in Gazza Barracks  
1963 Company was employed amongst other things in instructing civilian police in route signing and motorcycle convoy duties as they were required to provide police mobile columns for civil defence duties  
1970 The units strength was depleted greatly as NCOs were deployed to Northern Ireland. However the unit was augmented by Garrison Military Police  
1975 The unit moved to temporary accommodation in an old Sergeant ¢ € ™s Mess at the junction of Horne and Robertson Road whilst buildings were refurbished on Richmond road. Seven NCOs from the Australian Corps of Military Police also arrived with their families for a two year posting to Catterick  
1977 The Australian NCO's departed having completed their tour and as a parting gift presented the company with a specially commissioned painting of Sydney Harbour Bridge  
1977 5 Field Force Pro Unit RMP was formed to support to support HQ 5 FF based in Osnabruck, Germany and consisted of an HQ element and a Platoon from 150 Pro Coy RMP and a Platoon from 170 Pro Coy RMP. The Coy also moved to its new accommodation which it now occupies on Richmond Road  
1978 A two man GPD det was opened co-located with the SIB in Preston. In Jul of the same year 150 along with 170 Pro Coy RMP, 243(V) Pro Coy RMP and 252(V) Pro Coy RMP took part in a parade of over two hundred military policemen in a secluded Glen in the Kielder Forest. To commemorate the parade a wooden bridge over a stream that ran through the Glen marking the England/Scotland border was officially opened and named Jumbos Folly after Lt Col Wood APM NE District  
1 Apr 2000  150 Pro Coy became one of three original Coys under the newly formed 3rd Regiment RMP a Divisional Military Police Regiment under 3(UK) Division. It continued its role of direct support to 19th Light Bde based in Catterick

1952 The Company conducted patrols in the East Anglia District Area and assisted the civilian authorities during the floods in the Canvey Island and Norfolk areas  
  By the summer of 1953 156 Provost Company had established Detachments in Thetford, Norwich, Orsett and Brentford.  
  The Company first deployed to Kenya in the late 1953 to assist with the Mau Mau terrorists  
  In 1960 Harwich Ports Provost Company became part of 156 Provost Company and the same year 156 and 192 Provost Companies amalgamated to become 156 (EC) Provost Company based in Colchester  
  The Establishment of the Field Force as it is known today, came into being on the 27 Aug 1976, providing for an Operations Cell, to control the deployment of Provost in the field. This Field Force element was to consist of 2 Platoons, each consisting 32 men. At this time the first Operations officer was posted into 156 Provost Company, with 2 Platoons and a Head Quarters element on ready to deploy at short notice anywhere in the world.

  End of summer 1975: 3 Div Pro Coy RMP amalgamated with 158 Pro Coy RMP on the disbandment of Headquarters 3 Division Salisbury Plain, the gained the Ace Mobile Force (Land) Platoon. The final integration of the AMF(L) Platoon was not completed until its return from Norway in March 1976     
1975 England: Gordon Bks, Bulford: occupied new purpose built accommodation, where it was collocated with the Intelligence Corps  
28 Dec 1990 The United Kingdom Mobile Force (UKMF) Platoon deployed on Op GRANBY returning to Bulford Camp in March 1991  
1992 Section from Coy was deployed on Op WARDEN to the Gulf to assist with the Kurds and no fly zone in Iraq. Also during that year more restructuring took place with the changes from Districts to Divisions and the disbandment of South West District and the reforming of HQ (UK) Div who arrived from BAOR. The UKMF also changed its role at this time and became 1 Mech Bde although still based at Tidworth. This change resulted in the renaming of the RMP UKMF platoon to 1 Brigade Provost Unit (1 BPU)  
1994 Section deployed on Op GRAPPLE to Yugoslavia, the fore runner to Ops HANDEN, RESOLUTE and LODESTAR. At the end of this year the Coy gained further real estate from the Int Corps and completely took over building 52 within Gordon Barracks, later renamed Kiwi Barracks. The Coy has remained in these barracks to this day

1969 The only RMP presence in the province was 173 (Northern Ireland) Pro Coy which was located in Thiepval Bks, Lisburn and supported 39 Infantry Brigade  The strength of the company at the time was two Officers, one Warrant Officer and 29 NCOs  
End of Aug 1969 Coy reinforced by one section from 3 Div Pro Unit and with vehicles borrowed from the local TA  
  A swift reorganisation enlarged 173 Pro Coy to a new HQ and 6 platoons, an increase from its original strength of 32 to 110.  Further reinforcements on 4 and 6 month tours came from the UK and the British Army of the Rhine (BAOR) and additional platoons from 3 Div Pro Unit, until, on 5 November 1971, 173 Pro Coy ceased to exist and the 1st Regiment RMP was created
