David Voice QPM

Our Association has received notification of the recent passing of David Voice QPM, who passed away in the early hours of Sat 3 Jan 26, following an illness and infection. He was 89 yrs of age and for several years suffered with Demensia and was in a care home.

David completed National Service with RMP SIB as a Sgt, before leaving to join what is now Sussex Police. He retired as a Chief Supt, and Area Commander for Brighton and was awarded the QPM. A staunch supporter of the RMPA and the SIB Branch.

David William Ellis

Our Association has been notified of the recent passing of David Ellis on Mon 12th Jan 2026. David served 14 years in the Corps having joined the army as a boy soldier in 1965. He served in various theatres including Malaysia. Dave unfortunately developed dementia in the latter years of his life and resided in a care home prior to his death. He was visited by Association members to chat about his career, which he enjoyed.

David Ullyett

Our Association has been notified of the passing of David Ullyett on the 10th Dec 2025 at the age of 91 years. David served with the Corps briefly as part of his National Service followed by a full career with Kent Constabulary. He was a member of Kent Branch of the RMPA for a number of years.

John ‘Tanky’ Walker

Our Association has received the sad news of the sudden death of John ‘Tanky’ Walker on the 15 th Jan 2026. 

John originally joined the Army as a Junior Soldier in September 1965 originally at Tanafanau and then Ryhl.  He then went to RMPTC at Chichester to complete his training, passing out in Squad 106 in 1967. 

He had an extensive career with the Corps, serving in numerous locations including Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Bahrain, Berlin and Northern Ireland and is fondly remembered by those that served with him. On leaving the service, he became an active member of the Association and was one of the founders of the Northern Ireland Branch, which recently celebrated its’ 40 th Anniversary. At the time of his passing, he was the Chairman of the Branch and has worked tirelessly over the years supporting the Association and the RMP family. Described as an honest upstanding gentleman who will sadly be missed by all members of the Association, and those that knew him.

He leaves behind his wife Eileen, son David, daughter Karen and grandchildren.

Graham Smith

Our Association has been advised of the recent passing of Graham Smith on the 4 th Jan 2026. Graham served with the Corps from 1959 to 1982, leaving as a SSgt. Graham served in the following units:

  • 1958-59 Depot, 1959-61 Plymouth, 1962-65 Osnabruck, 1965-67 London District, 1967-68 Rheindahlen, 1968-70 SHAPE, 1970-71 Tidworth, 1971-72 Junior Leaders Regiment, Bodelwydden, 1973-75 Hohne, 1975-78 Londonderry, 1978-80 Berlin, 1980-82 Catterick.

On retiring from the Army in 1982, he joined the family’s’ Soft Furnishings company as the Managing Director and finally retired in 2004. Graham had an active social life with involvement in the local Bowling Club and the RBL, where he made many friends; which was reduced in his later years due to ill health.

He leaves his wife Avril (ex WRAC Provost) whom he met in London District and family; his two sons Gary and Gavin, Gary’s wife Lisa and their daughters Adele and Beckii and Gavin’s wife Mairéad. Graham will be much missed by all.

Tom Green

Our Association has received information on the recent passing of Tom Green on the 8th Jan 2026, at the age of 91.

Tom joined the RMP in 1952 and served 22 years, serving in Dusseldorf, Chichester, Singapore, Malaya, Hongkong and York, predominently as a member of the SIB

He lost his beloved wife of 70 years in August 2025 and has now been reunited with her.

Patricia Ann LINNETT née Taylor

Our Association has received information on the passing of W/409753 Patricia Ann LINNETT, on the 9 th  November 2025, suddenly at home, following a late diagnosis of cancer. She was 82 years of age.

Pat was one of the first female volunteers to join 49 Div / Dist Provost Company RMP/TA in c.1961, and remained in that Company until its disbandment in 1967, having attained the rank of Sergeant.

She was a keen supporter of the RMP Association, particularly in Leicester Branch where she was Treasurer for many years until its closure.

Her funeral took place on 19 December 2025 at St. Andrew’s Church, Countesthorpe, and was well attended by family, friends and former colleagues.  She leaves a son, daughter and grandchildren.

John Gilbert Brice

Our Association has received information regarding the recent passing of John Gilbert Brice on the 11th Dec 2025. John had an extensive military career serving with:

He leaves behind wife Anne and surviving children Carole, Lesley and Lynne. 7 Grandchildren and 5 Great-Grandchildren. He now joins his Son, Andrew, who sadly died 2017.

Sean Daughton

Our Association has received information on the recent passing of Sean Daughton who sadly passed away on 31st Dec 2025, after losing a long battle with Cancer.  Further details will be posted when known.

Bruce RF Dalton

 Our Association has received information on the recent passing of Bruce Dalton. Bruce served with the Royal Military Police in the 1950’s and on leaving had a successful career in Finance, working as a Financial Advisor and as the Finance Director for a number of organisations. Bruce was a respected contributor to the Financial Times , where his articles and commentary reflected a sharp analytical mind, an understanding of people and markets, and an ability to explain complex ideas with precision and accessibility.

William Upsall

Our Association has received information on the passing of 22613946 Lance Corporal William Upsall who sadly died on the 10 th November 2025 at the age of 92 years.  William joined RMP in 1951 and was in Squad 268. On passing out he completed his National Service, serving in a number of units including London District Provost Company. 

John Brice

Our Association has received news of the recent death of John Brice on the 12th Dec 2025 aged 90 years. John served with the Corps during the National Service era.

Andrew James Trickett

Our Association has received notification of the recent death of Andrew Trickett who sadly passed away on the 12th December 2025 after a long battle with Pancreatic cancer.   He will sadly be missed by all those lives he touched along the way in the many different ways he met them through his service, shooting, motorbikes and rugby.

Andy Sumner

Our Association has received notification of the death of Sergeant Andy Sumner who passed away on the 11th December 2025. Andy enlisted in 1960 and following training in Squad 802 went on to serve with 24 Brigade (Kenya), 3 Division (Bulford and Cyprus), 247 Provost Company and HQ Army. He left RMP in 1969.

Roy Francis

Our Association has received information on the passing of Roy Francis (Nov 2025), who served with Para Provost in the early 60’s. Roy passed away a couple of weeks ago and apparently lived in Thailand for a number of years returning to the UK a couple of years ago. 

The funeral service has already taken place. 

Michael Knight

Our Association has received details of the death of Michael Knight who recently passed away at 89 years of age. Michael served with the Military Police from 1954 – 1956 as part of National Service, serving in the UK and Germany.  Michael described the he time spent in the service shaped the way he went on to lead his life, and it was the best years, often recalling the great memories he had.

Our Association has received information on the passing of WO2 Robert ‘Bob’ Meacham RMP(SIB) on or about 19th November 2025.

Derek Sturgeon

Our Association has received information on the passing of Derek Sturgeon on the 8th Nov 2025 at the age of 88. Derek served with the Corps from 1958 – 1978 reaching the rank of WO1.

Devoted husband to Doreen, dearly loved father to David, Simon and Andrew, a treasured grandad to Daniel, Rosanna and Juliette.

Rupert ‘Ru’ Carey

Our Association has received information regarding the recent death of Rupert ‘Ru’ Carey who sadly passed away in Nov 2025. Ru served with the Corps for a number of years serving in Aldershot, Berlin and postings in Northern Ireland. He later transferred to the Intelligence Corps.

Bob Long

Our Association has received information regarding the recent death of Bob Long on the 13th Nov 2025.  No other details are known at this stage and information will hopefully be updated at a later date.

John Flowers

Our Association has received information regarding the recent death of John Flowers on 13th Nov 2025.

John initially joined the Army in 1959, serving with 2 Para prior to transferring to the Corps in 1964. During his service he was stationed in Aldershot, Hereford, Lisburn, Dhekelia, Sennelarger and at the training Centre at Chichester.

In 1982 he moved to the United States, where he established a security company in Miami before retiring to California.

Ken Warry

Our Association has received information regarding the recent death of Ken Warry, which was published in the NARPO Magazine. Ken served with the Corps prior to joining Hampshire Police. He passed away on the 21st October 2025 at his home in Gosport.

He was a member of 326 Squad, November 1952.

Conrad Joseph

Our Association has learned of the recent death of Conrad Joseph (8th Nov 2025).

Conrad joined 518 Squad at Woking and on passing out was posted to 40 Div Pro Coy in Hong Kong as part of his National Service. On leaving the Corps he joined Walsall Borough Police (now West Mids Police) where he served for 30 years, 25 years of which as detective in the CID.

Conrad was a member of the RMPA Birmingham Central Branch and the British Legion.

Barbara Brook

Our Association has been informed that Barbara Brook passed away in June 2025

Barbara served with WRAC Provost and served in 178 Pro Coy RMP and 247 Berlin Pro Coy RMP


Dave Garland

Our Association has been informed of the passing of Dave Garland on the 3rd October 2025 in Bermuda.

Dave was what can only be described as a “character” by all who knew him! A Yorkshire man through and through he joined the Bermuda Police in April 1961, having previously served in the Royal Military Police and in the East Yorkshire Police.

Andrew Hollinsgbee

Our Association has recently been advised of the passing of Andrew Hollingsbee on 31st Oct 2025.

 Andrew served in Northern Ireland, 110 Pro Coy RMP, Sennelager, Hong Kong and London District

Ben Hogan

Our Association has recently been advised of the passing of WO1 (RSM) A “Ben” Hogan (Oct 2025).

He joined 164 Pro Coy RMP (V) at CVHQ Chichester in the mid 70s and served with the Company until 1996, reaching the rank of WO1 (RSM), whilst simultaneously serving with Hampshire Constabulary, from which he retired as an Inspector. Following retirement he and his wife emigrated to Australia.

Bob ‘Bill’ Liddle

Our Association has recently been informed the passing of Bob Liddle (26th Oct 2025)

Bob joined the Corps in 1966, serving in Aden, HQ P&SS and Edinburgh, after many years suffering from MS.

Joe Larkin

Our Association has recently been advised of the Joe Larkin who died on the 30th Sept 25.  Joe initially joined the Irish guards in August 1971 and then transferred over to RMP in April 1974. He served with the RMP in Berlin and Northern Ireland before leaving to join the West Yorkshire police.  

Charles Piper

Our Association was recently informed of the death earlier in the year of Charles William Arthur Piper, who died on 20/06/2025.


John Donnolly

The following was an entry in the Blind Veterans UK Magazine. “John Donnolly of London who died on 14 June 2025 aged 95. 

He served as a Corporal in the Royal Military Police.

Tom Gorringe MBE

The following extract from a RUC site was sent to me by Tanky Walker. ’It is with profound sadness and sense of loss that I have to tell you that Tom Gorringe MBE passed away in hospital this afternoon, 12th July, after a long, determined and courageous battle with illness.

Many of us had the honour to serve with Tom and many had the undeniable privilege to call him friend.

Tom, a Suffolk lad, first served in Northern Ireland with the RMP. He then served with the RUC mainly in South Region (North & South Armagh). After retirement he was a founding member of the Royal Ulster Constabulary GC Association and was instrumental in drawing up its constitution. He was also a Lay Preacher for the Church of Ireland.’

Tanky added that Tom was a former member of the NI Branch, but left a number of years ago due to so many commitments, he felt it was not fair being unable to take a more active part in Branch affairs.

Trevor Green

I received the following message from Jim Porter. ‘More bad news I’m afraid, I have had a call from Paul Green. His father ex L/Cpl Trevor Green 1(Br) corps Royal Military Police passed away last night 22/23 Sept 2025, he had suffered a massive heart attack but passed away in hospital. Like myself he was ex National Service and was a wonderful friend and will be sadly missed.’

Dennis Wilson

Former 23640211 Lance Corporal Dennis Wilson passed away on the 17th September. He failed to make a recovery following surgery. Dennis served from 1959 to 1961 with 138 Pro Coy (Aldershot), 227 Pro Coy (Nicosia) and 6 Dog Coy.

Ronald Osbaldestin

The following was an entry in the Blind Veterans UK Magazine.

‘Ronald Osbaldestin of Durham died on 31 May 2025 aged 87. He served as a Lance Corporal in the Royal Military Police.

Phillip Locke

Our Association has been notified of the passing of Phillip Locke (notification received on 20th Sept 2025)

Phil joined the Corps in 1965 and served with 1 (BR) Corps, 170 Pro Coy RMP, Hohne, and Berlin.  His funeral will take place on Weds 8th Oct 2025 in Bristol.

Gordon Haywood

Our Association was recently notified of the passing of Gordon Haywood on the 8th Sept 2025, who was an active member of the Association together with is wife Sue. Gordon a South Yorkshireman for many decades lead from the front as the Chairman of the RMPA South Yorkshire Branch and was a Trustees and National Vice Chair.

Gordon served in the Corps from 1956 – 58, after transferring from the Royal Artillery. During his service he was based in Cyprus during the EOKA Crisis, which tragically saw a number of Corps members lose their lives. Gordon was an active participant in the Cyprus Memorial Parade at the NMA and was one of the small number of Corps veterans from the Crisis.

Roger Hayes

Our Association has recently received information regarding the passing of Roger Hayes who recently died in the Rustington Blind Veterans Home aged 83 years of age. Roger initially served with the London & Scottish Rifles prior to transferring to the RMP(V) in the City of London, serving from 1961 – 1968.

Ian Watts

Our Association has received the sad news that Ian Watts passed away on the 1st August after losing his battle with prostate cancer. Ian served with the SIB for the majority of his career reaching WO1 and was later commissioned.

Richard William Preece

Our Association has recently been advised of the recent the death of Richard Preece who recently passed away in RBL Living & Impact accommodation in Ayelsford in Kent, where he resided since 2017.  Richard initially served in the Royal Signals from September 2001 prior to transferring to the Corps in July 2004 serving with 110 Provost Company in Sennelager. In 2006 he was posted to the Joint Service Provost and Security Unit and then to the Cyprus Joint Police Unit, transferring to 160 Provost Company in 2009, until being discharged in 2013.

Steven Wilfred Leech

Our Association has been notified of the recent passing of Steven Leech who sadly passed away on the 19th July 2025, He served in 112 Pro Coy at Osnabruck and Lubbecke before serving in Northern Ireland. On leaving the Corps he joined the Civil Police and had a full career with them prior ot retiring.

Colin James Watson

Our Association has been notified of the recent passing of Colin James Watson who sadly passed away on the 24th May 2025, having served with the Corps from 1973 – 1988.  The Funeral service will take place on the 4th July 2025 at 1400hrs at Breckland Crematorium, Norwich Road, Scoulton, Norfolk, NR9 4NR,

Joseph Kibbler

The Association has been notified of the recent passing of former Sgt Joe Kibbler who sadly passed away in his home on the 14th May 2025, aged 33 Years.

Karen Ingram

Our Association has been notified of the recent passing of Karen Ingram, who sadly passed away on Monday 2 June 2025, having fought a long and courageous battle against cancer.  

James Stewart

Our Association has been notified of the recent passing of James Stewart from Perth on the 30th May 2025, at the tender age of 89.  James served with the Corps from 1957 – 1959, serving at 170 Pro Coy RMP after completing his training at Woking.

Roy Pratt MBE

Our Association has received details of the recent passing of Roy Pratt MBE on the 25th of May 2025. Roy initially served with the Cameron Highlanders, prior to transferring to the Corps. During his service, he served with the Mounted Branch for a number of years and on leaving the Corps he founded a charity 55 years ago called the Hackney Adventure Project, which aimed to take disadvantaged children from East London on adventure holidays at weekends and during school holidays.  Early on some of the children found a motorcycle and Roy tasked them with getting it to work. As a result of this the Imps Motorcycle Display Team was then born

The Imps was his life, and over the years over 2,500 children have passed through the gates and those children impacted over 4000 families. All of this was achieved by one man with tens and tens of amazing volunteers and helpers. The proposed date for the funeral is the 13th June 2025 in London.

Dennis Greenslade QPM

On Saturday 25th May 2025 we were informed of the death of former WO2 Dennis Greenslade QPM. He passed away peacefully at the RBL Dunkirk House Taunton.  Dennis served in the Burma campaign and often reflected that having been injured in Burma he was in India when the A bombs were dropped. On his return to the UK in 1946 Dennis embarked upon a long and distinguished career in Somerset Constabulary, (as well as reserve service in our Corps as an SIB WO) leading to his involvement in Operation Julie in the 1970s for which he was justly awarded the QPM. Upon retiring from the Police Dennis was employed by the FCO and headed up the Police presence in Rhodesia monitoring the election process ahead of the transition to its independence and the birth of Zimbabwe.

Dusty Kemp

North Hampshire & Surrey RMPA Branch Member, Dusty Kemp, ex Mounted Troop, passed away on Tue 13th May 2025. Dusty suffered a heart attack and stroke.

Lee Sansum

It was reported that Lee Sansum RMP (SIB) who was well known in the Close Protection and Martial Arts world sadly passed away on Sat 17th May 2025 as a result of a major heart attack at his home.

Major Bob Loftus

It was reported that Bob Loftus RMP (SIB) died on 10th May 2025. Bob had an extensive career with the Corps and was well known in Branch Circles and also in the commercial security sector having worked at Harrods as the Head of Security for a number of years. He unfortunately suffered from dementia for a number of years prior to his passing.

We have been advised that there will be no funeral service or wider remembrance as that is the family’s wish.

Major JR Roy Blackford

It was reported today by SIB RMPA that Major JR Roy Blackford passed on Thursday 17 April 2025. following a short brave battle with an aggressive form of cancer. Roy served as OC 87 Sect (JHQ Düsseldorf) in 1984 and was then 2IC SIB RMP BAOR, 1987 – 1988. Roy was well known in Branch circles and commanded the SIB efforts for the Zeebrugge ferry disaster. He was also DAPM HQ 1 Armd Div at Verden in 1991.

Lt Col. Colin Watkins

Our Association has learnt of the death of Lt Col Colin Watkins, we are informed by his daughter that Colin passed away on the 10th April 2025. For those in the Close Protection world you will be aware, we are sure of his pivotal role in establishing the CP Unit over 40 years ago.

Corporal Tony Perkins

Reported on 13 Apr 2025 ~ Cpl. Tony Perkins who resided in Northern Ireland has died recently. Tony served in Cyprus and Falkland Islands.

Jane Anne Francis

Our Association has learnt of the death of Cpl Jane Francis on the 9th March 2025. Jane served with the Corps from the mid 1960’s through to 1970 serving in Cyprus and London District.
