“One badge to rule them all, One badge to find them, One badge to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.” – J.R.R. Tolkien Rip off

Quick introduction, this is a ‘blind link’ so it not visible or accessible from the RMPA Website.

As you are no doubt aware, RMP In Business has been in operation in some form or another since the mid 1980’s. It was generally managed on an informal basis by a small number of individuals who arranged networking events over a curry and a pint for the corps family to attend. This later included using online platforms to connect individuals, on Linkedin, WhatsApp, Facebook etc.  Due to commitments the organisers temporary had to ‘park’ the networking activity apart from what was being uploaded to these online groups.

I have recently taken over as the National Secretary of the RMPA and want to improve the ‘esprit de corps’ in a number of ways, which was part of the foundation of why the Association was formed nearly 80 years ago, to maintain the bond between Veterans and the existing cohort. I believe that one of the key ways of doing this will be through RMP In Business. When individuals leave the Corps and move on to pastures new, quite often they excel in their new careers and ex Corps have held / do hold some of the top roles in a wide range of businesses. From Board Level, Senior Management, Subject Matter Experts, Business Owners, you name it we have no doubt had someone do it.

We are extremely keen to relaunch RMP In Business under the umbrella of the RMPA, and expand our initial objectives to:

  • Create a professional support network
  • Providing a network of like-minded individuals prepared to offer their time and experience to help others ~ Giving back to the Corps
  • Provide a network of contacts of people prepared to share advice and share ‘Best Practice’ examples where possible
  • Offer career development advice and information on professional bodies and organisations that can assist individuals (e.g. Security Institute, Association Security Consultants, etc.)
  • Create close working relationships with recruitment agencies
  • Provide online ‘restricted access’ job bulletin board
  • Assisting Service Police in resettlement by offering advice and creating awareness of job opportunities across all fields of employment.
  • Maintaining close links to the Royal Military Police directorate to promote opportunities and advice for service Police leavers.
  • Online advice blogs / platforms
  • Online ‘Request for Assistance’ bulletin boards
  • Organise networking events to encourage cross pollination and the maintainable of a Service Police Community after the Army career.
  • Assisting ex Corps find business to business opportunities.

RMP In Business will be managed as a separate entity and structured with a Board / Steering Group, supported by Regional Leads etc.  We will look at hosting a number of events throughout the year across the country and also online webinars.

We can only do this with the support from some of you, it may only take a small amount of your time, it may however be extremely beneficial to those that follow behind us. Part of our initial steps with the relaunch is a fact finding exercise, to see who would like to become involved and gather key information that may assist how we formulate the support network. To aid with this I have created a brief online registration form (on the link below), which will feed into a secure database, which will provide the steering group with an initial view of the skill set amongst us, and what support people are willing to provide.

We fully understand that personal situations change and people may or may not be able to support at different stages, this is purely a voluntary service with no pressure to do anything.

If you have any comments or questions please feel free to contact me on secretary@RMPA.Org.UK

Thanks in advance for your support
